The Nigeria Universities Commission, NUC, have the policy of monitoring public and private Universities in the country regularly to ensure that at all times this citadel of learning charged with the responsibilities of producing the nation’s would be drivers of the country’s development have all it takes in terms of infrastructure, qualified personal, quality programmes and equipment to carry out the task.
Because of their strict adherence to the set rules, most Universities shunder and tremble whenever NUC team plans to visit them. But to management of Gregory University Uturu, their visits are always welcomed.
Therefore, when recently fifteen teams from NUC, visited to examine the departments of Mechanical engineering, Chemical engineering,
Petroleum engineering, Surveying and Geo-informatics, Theatre and Media Studies, Computer engineering, Microbiology, Mass Communication, Biology, Medicine and Surgery, Agriculture, Hotel Management and Tourism, Law and Physiology the institution’s management was happy to receive them.
According to the Vice Chancellor Professor Augustine Uwakwe, without them many institutions will become nonchalant to the responsibilities reposed on them. “Without missing words, your monitoring of the Universities have in no small way help in making Nigeria tertiary education one of the best in Africa. We at Gregory University Uturu, see you as partners and believe that you’ll join us in this task of Nation building, so don’t spare the rod and spoil the child, but note to tell us where we are strong, where we are weak and where we need to improve upon”, he said.
At the end of almost one month visit, the teams in there separate verdicts gave the departments clean bill of health. Today the first set of Law students from the University will be joining their counterparts at this years law school, same goes with students of medicine and surgery.
